Energy saving and water conservation are two buzz phrases heard a lot these days. At Adivo Construction, we pride ourselves on offering a variety of efforts to help save the planet and our clients’ bottom line. Both efforts are very attractive for prospective tenants as they equate to considerable cost savings on their electric and water bills over time.

Below are some steps we take to ensure our projects are both energy efficient and planet-friendly.

Energy Saving

Energy efficient bulbs – We use halogen incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), and light-emitting diode bulbs (LEDs) whenever possible. They use between 25-80% less electricity and last three to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs.

Programmable thermostats – In an effort to eliminate wasteful energy usage, we install programmable thermostats. They automatically turn off or reduce heating and cooling during specific times.

HVAC systems – ENERGY STAR heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment (HVAC) are between 6 – 16% more energy efficient than baseline models.

Energy efficient appliances – Did you know appliances are responsible for about 12-13% of the total household energy use? Energy efficient appliances cost up to 25% lower than the standard non-efficient models. Appliances with the ENERGY STAR label hold the federal guarantee that it will consume less energy during use and when on standby than the

Windows – By replacing single-pane windows with double-pane windows, you can reduce unnecessary heat loss by up to 20% in the colder months and reduce heat gain inside the home during the warmer seasons.

Water Conservation

We install low-flow toilets and faucets and aerators in each of the units we renovate via the Fannie Mae Green Rewards program.  Newer low-flow toilets use as little as 1.28 gallons of water per flush, as opposed to a standard toilet which uses 3.5 – 7 gallons per flush!  Adivo does not recommend using a toilet that offers less than 1.28 gallons of water per flush for two reasons:

  • Deferred repairs
  • Any less amount of water per flush would incur lower flush velocity, causing the probability of having to flush multiple times.
